Project Statement
Scentsory
This installation unfolds as an unstable theater of perception, where light, shadow, and material continuously collide. The fractured acrylic plates refract projected images into ever-shifting patterns, reshaped by the audience’s gestures and movements.

Layers of textile on the ground catch and scatter this luminous flux, while AI-generated olfactory compounds disperse through the space—not reproducing familiar memories, but fabricating ambiguous sensorial terrains that unsettle the boundaries between recognition and estrangement.
Set against the theme panic—yes or no, the work does not approach panic as a singular emotion, but as a tension within systems that capture, compute, and re-engineer affect. Through the Kinect’s sensing of posture and expression, emotional data is translated into light, shadow, and scent, and then returned to the body in a loop of recognition and estrangement.

This circuit both exposes the mechanisms through which digital systems extract and modulate affect, and reminds participants of their perpetual oscillation between system and self, authenticity and simulation.
The installation thus operates as both an immersive sensorial encounter and a provocation: an inquiry into how emotions persist, mutate, and resonate within technologically mediated environments. It refuses to resolve panic into a simple yes or no, instead inviting audiences to inhabit a threshold where anxiety and comfort, control and dissolution, converge.
